Plum Creek Colorado Riesling Ice wine
-Nathan Morimitsu
The
first time I tried Plum Creeks Ice Wine was at the winery. It
was about two years ago, and they were just bottling their first
vintage. Plum
Creek, one of Colorados finest wineries, and this Riesling
Ice Wine from them is quite possibly the best they have
produced.
Plum Creek Cellars is located directly in the heart of
Colorado Wine Country, downtown Palisade. They grow all of their
own grapes, and occasionally even sell grapes to some of the other
wineries in the area. This is the most recent release of their
Colorado Ice Wine, and if past vintages are any indication, it
will sell out quickly, last year I couldnt even get any.
This
vintage is sweet! But dont let that stop you from trying it.
The initial bouquet is very floral, with hints of carnation and
rose. The sweet fruit flavors are very forward initially, and then
give way to a mild citrus acidity.
Try
pairing this wine up with chocolate dipped strawberries or fresh
peaches. Or get wild and give it a try with a chunk of white
chocolate.
This
wine doesnt just taste good, its beautiful. Really. A great
golden color catches the light that brings to mind sunset on the
ski slopes.
You
might think Ice Wine isnt something you would want to drink on
a cold winter night, but in fact, I highly recommend it,
especially with a loved one and a roaring fire. We have it priced at $11.99 a bottle, and quantities are
limited.
