San Luis Obispo features the fast growing and highly regarded regions of Paso Robles and Edna Valley. This county has been synonymous with great Pinot Noirs and Zinfandels but there is a lot more going on than just these two varieties. Paso Robles is proclaimed to be the Rhone Zone where winemakers are experimenting with Rhone varietals; Grenache, Syrah etc. with very exciting results. Wild Horse Winery Wild Horse Winery was founded in 1982 by Ken Volk and presently produces about 90,000 cases a year. We really like these guys and think they make outstanding wines. They made their impeccable reputation with their Pinot Noir but their Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc are also well known. We know the world probably does not need another Merlot, but these guys take theirs seriously, and it’s a big Merlot! Their Cabernet Sauvignon is excellent, light in body and great with lamb chops.
