| New Zealand is a cool climate and a relatively new wine producing country, thirty years ago it was virtually unknown. It has a wide range of growing conditions and the quality of vintages vary wildly from place to place and year to year. We feel the the most exciting region presently is Marlborough, which is the North part of the South island. This region produces highly acidic wines with high sugars. The flavors are intense! While white wines rule there is a lot of experimentation with red varietals. Pinot Noir seems to be the natural fit for the climate. We love Cloudy Bay(highly allocated but call for availability) Nautilus and Omaka Springs Sauvignon Blancs and for riesligs and chardonnays look for Grove Mill and Sanctuary. |
