in Brief |
San Luis Obispo
Featured Winery |
| San Luis Obispo County is an area made up of four American Viticultural areas and is diverse in it’s climate and soil makeup. In general this region has hot days and cold nights. Many Vineyards take advantage of the break in mountain ranges to let in fog and ocean Breezes. San Luis Obispo features the fast growing and highly regarded regions of Paso Robles and Edna Valley. This county has been synonymous with great Pinot Noirs and Zinfandels but there is a lot more going on than just these two varieties. Paso Robles is proclaimed to be the Rhone Zone where winemakers are experimenting with Rhone varietals; Grenache, Syrah etc. with very exciting results. If you’re looking for a laid back wine tasting with the who's who of California wine don’t miss the Eighth Annual Rhone Wine Celebration in San Luis Obispo).

Wild Horse Winery
Wild Horse Winery was founded in 1982 by Ken Volk and presently produces about 90,000 cases a year. We really like these guys and think they make outstanding wines. They made their impeccable reputation with their Pinot Noir but their Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc are also well known. We know the world probably does not need another Merlot, but these guys take theirs seriously, and it’s a big Merlot! Their Cabernet Sauvignon is excellent, light in body and great with lamb chops. Be sure to also try a Wild Horse Rhone varietal.| Producer | Varietal | Vintage | Price | Buy Now | | Wild Horse | Pinot Noir | 2000 | 19.99 | Details | | Wild Horse | Merlot | 1999 | 16.49 | Details | | Wild Horse | Pinot Blanc | 1999 | 14.49 | Details | | Wild Horse | Zinfandel | 1998 | 14.49 | Details |
